This I Believe

I believe that we are all sparks off a central flame; each of us a single burning tree in a forest fire engulfing a whole continent. As Jesus is rumored to have said to Thomas in the Gospel of Thomas, "I am God, You are God, We are One."

I believe in reincarnation. I believe that my last lifetime here was as the brother of Jesus that we call James. I've been told that when I was killed, I refused to come back to this planet for a very long time. Now I am here to renew my Brother's work, in a different way.

I believe in Spirit as a guiding light; as my Mother Goddess. I am part of Her, She is all of Me. I prefer to use the feminine, mother image for the Divine One, as a symbol of nurturing and growth; protection and guidance. My brother attempted this with the masculine image, and it was twisted into what most see today - an old man, sitting on a throne, waiting to catch us in error, delighting in punishment.

I see my Mother in a Crone's face. I see Her in a newborn's eye. I hear her voice in a brook, or carried on the breeze. I hear her in the quietness of my room, where the only other sound is my heartbeat. I feel her touch when my lover reaches for me in sleep. I smell her perfume in each flower.

I see the path not as one path, but many. We are all attempting to climb the mountain to be with The Divine One. Some take similar paths, and occasionally the same path. Most take widely divergent paths. When several share a path, it is called a "religion."

Some religions seem to set up camp on the side of the mountain, and attempt to lure other climbers to the camp. They seem to work to prevent campers from attempting further climbing. Their motto is, stay here where it is safe; The Divine will airlift us to the top!

Such a religion is what I came out of, and began climbing again. Occasionally I wrote what I see on a rock, and dropped it down to them. They believed I was trying to stone them. I've quit trying to get them to climb.
